Salinas summit aims to keep kids away from gangs

Carol Cervantez grew up on the east side of Salinas and was headed in a direction that was all-too familiar for kids in her neighborhood.

But after numerous times of going in and out of juvenile hall detention centers, she flipped the script and is now trying to prevent kids from going down the same path she did. Cervantez will tell her story at the annual Crossroads Gang Prevention Summit on Saturday at the Salinas Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
