(SEASIDE, Calif.) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) on June 21 honored three local organizations for their outstanding contributions to the youth of the community.

Cannery Row Company, Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS), and the Nancy Eccles and Homer M. Hayward Family Foundation received the Luis Perez Community Award for their service during BGCMC’s annual Community Breakfast.

Cannery Row Company, and Ted Balistreri, has been a part of the Clubs for the last 20 years. Their support includes funding for the Academic Success programs and through event sponsorships. SVMHS has provided financial support for the Clubs’ Healthy Lifestyles initiatives for 18 years. The organization has also played a key role in many of the Clubs’ events, including Family Nights, Comics for Kids, and more. The Nancy  Eccles and Homer M. Hayward Family Foundation has been a part of the Clubs since the 1990s and recently made a significant contribution to the Clubs’ solar conversion at the Seaside Clubhouse.

BGCMC established the Luis Perez Community Award to honor former Monterey Peninsula College Facilities Manager Luis Perez, who volunteered as a master craftsman at the Clubs every day after he retired.

“The award was named in his honor to acknowledge his legacy of selfless and joyful service,” said BGCMC President and CEO Michael L. Jackson.
