2022 Virtual Marti Mulford Youth Art Exhibit

The Marti Mulford Youth Art Exhibit was named after Marti Mulford, a local ceramist, for her legacy of art and nurturing the creativity of youth.

“Creativity, the conjoining of self-expression, the use of intellect, and media of some sort, provides meaning and satisfaction to me in most of my pursuits….I have a firm philosophy and belief in the benefits of an education in the humanities, the study of cultures—ancient and modern—and the arts.” —Marti Mulford

Cristian is a disciplined young artist with a passion for creativity in many forms. He has shown strong dedication to our Salinas Clubhouse art program, and he has participated in every kind of art session we offer. Not only does he do great work at the Club, he also has his own collection of drawings and sketches that he does at home. At such a young age, Cristian has been able to build a strong portfolio of work that he has been able to share with his peers and adults in his life. He takes inspiration from many avenues, however, he enjoys the inspiration he takes from cartoons and anime the most. He has expressed that he wants to be an animator when he grows up.

Erica’s artistic influences are based on the things that she likes such as music, and television shows. Her favorite subjects to paint/draw are animals. She has been painting since she was in middle school.

What makes Erica’s art different is her improvisational style. Instead of planning what techniques she will use beforehand, she will “just go with the flow”. She likes making art because she can be as creative as she wants and not have any limitations on what she can and can’t do.

Art is important to her because it is a way for her to express herself without having to say anything and it is also a coping mechanism when she is stressed. The next type of art Erica wants to learn about is surrealism. She is currently working on a surrealism collage at school. In the future, she plans to become an animator if she doesn’t go into the music industry.

Favour lives in Maryland and is in the 4th grade. She has been at Clubhouse at Your House – Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington virtual programming for about a year. Favour is known for her silly personality and witty commentary. She has an almost perfect attendance for Club sessions and does not miss an opportunity to showcase her art! Being heavily inspired by her favorite YouTube artists, she started her own YouTube channel: FavourCreates, where she posts how-to art videos and hair tutorials. She does an iconic happy dance any time she wins something – including when she learned she was chosen as Artist of the Year

Aiden has been a part of our Virtual Clubhouse from the start and is still the member with the most consistent attendance and participation. Aiden is a talented young artist who is quick to learn advanced concepts and techniques. He is also a joy to have in our art sessions because of his high level of engagement and his positive attitude. At the end of each session, it’s always fun to see how his artwork will turn out. We have high expectations for him, and he always exceeds those expectations with every piece of art he creates.
