Ron Johnson, Vice President of OperationsDepartment: Executive Staff
Ron is currently the Vice President of Operations for Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County. He became involved with the club because he enjoys working with young people and wants to have a positive influence on their development. Ron has been with the Boys & Girls Club since 1992.
Before joining the Boys & Girls Club, Ron was an investment advisor with Prudential Securities. He worked at the Carmel branch for 2 years. Ron had a very successful career in sports before his employment with Prudential Securities.
He played professional football for 8 years. Ron started his sports career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League as a wide receiver for 3 seasons (1981-84). He then joined the NFL Philadelphia Eagles in 1985, where he played for 5 seasons. The Eagles made the playoffs in 1988 and 1989 under head coach Buddy Ryan. During that time, Ron started in 20 games, making big play after play for the team. He retired in 1990.
Ron grew up locally with his 4 brothers and one sister. He attended Monterey High School and Monterey Peninsula College before transferring to Long Beach State University. He graduated from Long Beach in 1981 with a degree in Business Management. His mother, Mae Johnson, was the principal at Monterey High School for 5 years.
Ron currently serves on the Board of Directors for Pathways Foundation and has served as a Board Member for the United Way of Monterey County from 1997 through 2000, with his last year as President. He volunteers much of his time to programs that benefit youth, including the Herman Edwards Football Camp, CPRS District 6 Youth Fitness Day and Monterey Bay Blues Festival. He enjoys playing tennis and golf in his spare time. Ron and his wife Lynn were married in 1988 and they have two sons named Wesley and Evan. Lynn, is a meeting and event planner with Evans & Johnson. They reside in Monterey, California.
