Good Character & Citizenship

• Torch Club

This small group program, open to Members 11-13 years old, aims to instil tolerance, civic responsibility, community involvement and leadership by engaging participants in meaningful leadership and service-learning  projects that benefit the Club and the larger community. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.

Our Torch Club program engages participants in a broad range of service activities from local environmental restoration projects to making quilts for neighborhood homeless shelters. Two particularly popular Torch Club projects are the annual Senior Prom and the Baking Fundraiser. The Senior Prom is a heart-warming special event in which the Torch Club hosts an actual prom for over 200 local senior citizens. After creating the ideal prom ambiance in the Gymnasium, Torch Club Members spend an evening eating, mingling and dancing with their special guests. The night’s festivities culminate with the crowning of a Senior Prom King & Queen. Through the Baking Fundraiser, Torch Club Members raise funds to support the Great American Bake Off, an organization that helps combat child hunger in America.

• Keystone

Keystone is a small-group program designed to help teen Members gain valuable leadership and service experience. Our Keystone program, which meets weekly, is open to Members 14-18 years old. Throughout the year, Keystone Members conduct activities in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service.

During Keystone meetings, teens engage in discussions and teambuilding activities. Teens are also responsible for identifying Keystone projects, insuring that those projects are in alignment with the required categories, and planning how to best complete those projects effectively. Keystone Members who successfully meet program participation criteria are sponsored to attend the annual BGCA Keystone Leadership Conference.

• Teen Council

This leadership group was created to give teen Members an established forum for influencing Club activities and operations as they pertain to teens. The Teen Council is responsible for planning all Teen Night activities. Their creative input resulted in the wildly popular Fear Factor themed night and the Mission Impossible themed night. Participation in Teen Council provides teen members with a means to express their opinions and have action taken with a short turn around time. Teen Council also functions as a focus group for program proposals and teen feedback throughout the Club.
