What is a "Family Night"?

Offered quarterly, our Family Night program engages Club Members and their families in a fun night of fitness and educational activities while offering important information about available community health resources and making healthy, informed choices regarding good nutrition, health, fitness and overall wellness. This very successful program was launched, as a component of our Club-wide Wellness Initiative, to help us build relationships between Club Staff, Members and their families; to provide fun opportunities for Members and their families to participate and learn together through Club activities; and to utilize BGCMC resources to contribute to the health of our Members and their families.

What happens during Family Night?

At each Family Night event, Members and their families are served a nutritious dinner, with a demonstrated emphasis on portion control. They also engage in fun fitness and learning activities that encourage physical activity and increase knowledge of good nutrition, fitness and wellness habits. We help families learn about helpful community wellness resources by inviting key community partners to set up information tables during the event. Additionally, we raffle off fun prizes at the end of each Family Night with an emphasis on ones that will support continued attention to family fitness and wellness at home (e.g. fruit baskets, grocery store gift certificates, passes for family outings, etc.). We also provide Members and their families with  “goody bags” filled with information and materials that reinforce the themes of good nutrition, fitness and wellness at home. All Family Night information is presented in both English and Spanish.

An upcoming fun twist to our Family Nights include Girls Night Out and Boys Night Out at the Clubs.  Drawing upon the successful framework of our Family Nights, dinner, activities and a mini-Community Resource Fair specifically addressing the interests and needs of our female Members and their mothers/significant female adults in their lives during March and our male members and their fathers/significant male adults in their lives will be offered during May.
