Teen Parent Nights make an impression!
Parents are invited to Teen Parent Night, an Academic Success Initiative open house from 6:15 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Seaside Unit on Wednesday, April 2nd and Thursday, April 3rd at the Salinas Unit. Club Teens, Tutors, Staff and CSUMB community partners present to parents the various projects that are currently assisting teen members to raise their academic scores and look towards college as the next step. The Academic Success initiative includes: homework support, CAHSEE math prep, college mapping, book club, math tutoring, English tutoring, Spanish tutoring, Leadership clubs, field trips to colleges and universities.

Keystone Garage Sale In an effort to raise funds for the American Cancer Society, BGCMC Keystone Leadership Clubs will be hosting a Garage Sale at the Seaside Clubhouse on Saturday, April 5th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Track & Field Club Members ages 6-15 years old are invited to participate in our exciting 2008 Track & Field program! Every member will have the opportunity to develop skills and fitness levels in a variety of track and field events. Practice workouts will consist of warm-ups, stretching, form funning, conditioning sprints and cool downs. Track meets are held in May, culminating in June to qualify for the Hershey's Invitational Track Meet in San Jose. Practices are held Monday’s and Friday’s 4:00 pm- 5:00pm in Seaside; in Salinas, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s 5:00pm -6:00pm.
Youth Fitness Day is a county-wide event, held in Pacific Grove on Saturday, May 10th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Similar to track meets, Youth Fitness Day places an emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, participation and overall health and fitness. All Club Members are encouraged to participate. Field Trip to PAC Rep Theatre’s, “If Wishes Were Horses" Production Due to a generous donation by sponsors for PAC Rep Theatre, Club members will enjoy the muscial performance at the Golden Bough Theatre in Carmel. Seaside Club Members will attend on Friday, April 25th and Salinas Members will attend the matinee on Sunday, April 27th.

Through the Eyes of Youth (TTEOY) Project initiated by the Asset Builders Alliance provides a vehicle for youth to use art to reflect their perception of their community in an effort to inform local governmental bodies, schools, youth-serving organizations, and families about youth opinions regarding the current state-of-affairs in their communities. Members ages 11 and older will develop art in March to be displayed in the Seaside Clubhouse in April. Selected pieces will be on display in Seaside City Hall and the Sorpar Community Center in May. Members Get SMART while Acquiring Life Skills
- SMART Girls Daytime Pajama Party April 19th! Girls participating in the Smart Girls, Smart Chicas programs, will spend a Saturday afternoon enjoying a healthy lunch, self-care and craft activites while spending time with their favorite female staff.
- Our well attended Yoga class is offered, for boys and girls of all ages. We will also be starting a classical Dance class for 6-10 year olds.
- Healthy cooking classes every Friday from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm in Seaside and Monday’s from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm in Salinas. All ages have an opportunity to gain culinary skills and try new, healthy and delicious foods!

Dig into Science and Jump into Spring!
- EcoTeam is a weekly program where Members assist in creating and maintaining an organic vegetable and herb garden. Offered in Seaside, Wednesday’s from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm; in Salinas, Monday and Thursday, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
- Club Zoom is a program for members 6 to 10 years old to do hands-on science activities which use basic household supplies to experiment with chemistry, physics and biology. This program is offered April-May on Tuesday’s from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm.
- Backyard Ballistics will be offered in June, on Tuesday’s from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm. This program applies common usage and knowledge of tools and crafts and how they affect our ability to control and adapt to our environment. Members learn principles of physics by providing them with opportunities to design and build various vehicles and machines.

Teen Media Project provided through the BGCMC State Farm Youth Adisory Board College Bound Initiative will deliver three poweful messages throughout Monterey County as a vehicle for increasing access to higher education and closing the achievement gap:
1. Youth Are Assets, Not Liabilities!
2. Staying out of trouble is NOT enough!
3. A College Education Should Be a right, not a Privilege!
Teens will utilize arts and technology, service learning methodology, and their leadership as tools for creating and implementing a multi-media outreach campaign. The Teen Media Youth Advisory group will meet from March 31st –May 23rd, in Salinas, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm; in Seaside Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Success in the World of Work: Career Prep & Teen Internship Program
Twenty Teen Members are poised to graduate on May 15th from our Career Prep Program, an experiential job-readiness and career exploration program for youth ages 13-18. Participants learn to assess their skills and interests, write effective resumes, perform well in interviews, dress appropriately, and develop good work habits through workshops, guest speakers, mock interviews and job-shadowing. (Special thanks to the Dole Company and CTB McGraw Hill the fall and spring Career Prep job shadowing sessions.) On May 15th, successful participants will become Career Prep graduates and be eligible to apply for paid Internships to test and refine their newly acquired job-readiness skills.
